The invisible Net Neutrality

We all use the internet, but seldom do  we know the net neutrality?  The same like we all enjoy some benifits of a certain system, but seldom do we know the rules obeyed by  the system builders. This terms is totally new to me.

Net neutrality means that the principle that Internet service providers and governments should treat all data on the Internet the same, not discriminating or charging differentially by user, content, site, platform, application, type of attached equipment, or mode of communication.”

At present, the rules prevent Internet service providers (ISPs) from showing preferential treatment to content providers of any kind, ensuring that the biggest and smallest of sites on the web are accessible.

Net Neutrality: What You Need to Know Now gives a very detailed explanation about the history, story, improtance, pros and cons, and debates about net neutrality currently. I like the metaphor it makes about the phone company shouldn’t decide who you can call and what you say on that call. It’s for open Internet builder and it’s definitly good for small business owners, startups and entrepreneurs. It avoid the monopoly situation by the Internet tycoon. So Prisident Obama keep a firm attitude towards the insistance of net neutrality.

It seems that the net neutrality is a good thing. However, there are people worry about it. Why Net Neutrality Isn’t Worth Celebrating says that the ugent problem is the lack of serpvision and management and there are something that just a term can’t fix. This isn’t something ISPs ever actually practiced, and competition is needed to help lower the cost. The artical Is Net Neutrality a good idea or a bad idea? is more clear that it’s good politically but difficult to judge and implement technically.

There is a vote about Is net neutrality a good thing?   And the result is more or less and there are a little more people who support net neutrality a good thing. It’s good to be just and fair but whether define network as a commodity matters. And all in all, the Internet develops towards a better situation in my opinion, it seems that the ideal situation should be dealt with some pracitcal problems.
